Model data
TMfS uses a variety of data sources to prepare the outputs used to assess different road and public transport infrastructure schemes or policy initiatives. These principal input data include:
- Large national surveys ie 2001 Census and Travel to Work data, National Travel Survey, Scottish Household Survey and its Travel Diary and Scottish-wide rail ticket data;
- National/Regional economic and geo-demographic assumptions;
- Planning data forecasts ie future development land allocations, as predicted by Local Authority planners;
- Road network details ie link lengths, number of lanes, speed limits, junction lay-outs, signal timings and topography;
- Public transport service data - routes, frequencies and fares;
- Origin-Destination Data - Roadside interviews (RSIs) and on-board public transport interviews – these usually provide information on travel patterns in specific corridors;
- Count data – traffic counts, turning counts at junctions, public transport user counts and car park surveys (providing calibration/validation data for overall demand and mode/route choice); and
- Travel time surveys (predominantly used for validating the traffic model).
Follow input data to view the real data used to prepare the various versions of the model (TMfS:02, TMfS:05, TMfS:07).
TMfS, along with the Land Use model (TELMoS), provides an ability to forecast changes in both land use and travel patterns throughout the model area. The model outputs can be used to assess different road and public transport infrastructure schemes or policy initiatives and include:
